Direct Source Gains Competitive Advantage with Wavelink

´We have found Wavelink Studio to be a very powerful tool." Brad Fick, vice president of sales and marketing at Direct Source

CHALLENGE

Direct Source Inc. wanted to ensure that its applications interfaced with other custom and off-the-shelf applications, including applications on host systems. Secondarily, Data Source was contending with pressures to provide applications that are highly flexible to meet the needs of remote and mobile users.

SOLUTION

Direct Source uses Wavelink Studio and Wavelink Activebridge, a plug-in to Studio for host connectivity, to develop applications that need to access character or legacy-based applications residing on host mainframes. Using Wavelink Studio and Activebridge has enabled Direct Source to avoid the pitfalls of writing applications for wireless, and bring their solutions to market faster.

"Studio takes a lot of hurdles out of the way,´ said Brad Fick, vice president of sales and marketing at Direct Source. "With Activebridge it can access multiple hosts and many types of hosts. It´s a very practical tool to have because we never know what kind of host we´re going to run into.´

Wavelink Studio gives Direct Source the power and flexibility it needs to succeed in a rapid application development environment. The company has increasingly turned to Wavelink to meet the demanding requirements of its clients. Direct Source has used Wavelink Studio to consistently develop and customize applications for its clientele.

"We have found Wavelink Studio to be a very powerful tool," said Fick. "It´s an efficient way to develop and manage RF code, and one of its best assets is that it reduces the total cost of ownership for our clients."

The ease of use of Wavelink products has impressed Direct Source clients who take over the ongoing maintenance of applications developed by Direct Source.

"The Wavelink tools are easy for them to adapt to," Fick said. "The flexibility and sound technical foundation of their products make them ideal for any company to operate on the fly."

Direct Source´s positive experiences with Wavelink products have prompted it to recommend Wavelink when discussing projects with its customers.

"We´ll talk about Wavelink because clients ask us right away which tool to use," Fick added. "We include Wavelink in our standard sales presentation. We also have Wavelink posted at our trade show booth."

BENEFITS

  • Wavelink Studio enables greater efficiency in producing applications.

  • It reduces the client´s total cost of ownership for developing and managing RF applications and systems.

  • The ease of use significantly reduces need for employee training.

CASE STUDY

Among the applications that Data Recognition has created using Wavelink Studio are applications that validate attendee information for a Latter-Day Saints Church conference, determine inventory from a jewelry store vault, and create a paperless system for a warehouse with 80 employees.

"We´re also using Studio and Activebridge for a large defense contractor project to track service and repair information at a military base," Terry said. "They use the application to post work-in-progress to the mainframe and store ancillary data to an Oracle database."

Data Recognition has found Wavelink´s SNC 24 to be very useful for managing its wireless networks. Especially useful to the company are the many features SNC 24 offers.

"It´s the best wireless LAN software management tool," said Terry. "We particularly like the network security and the control features for Access Points."

The flexibility of Wavelink Studio has persuaded Data Recognition to promote Wavelink´s products as selling points with its clients.

"Some clients don´t care which tool we use, but others want to know everything because they plan to take over maintenance of the software, and then Wavelink becomes a selling point," Terry said.
